Regional Program for Women's and Children's Health: Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD)

Date and time

Monday, July 27, 2020
9:00 am to 4:00 pm

This a WebEx workshop that will be offered to community-based mental health clinicians.

The Pediatric and Adolescent Transgender Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock invites you to join us for a WebEx event, presented by Deborah Coolhart, PhD, LMFT.

Participants will learn about the evolving language around trans identities, the developmental process of growing into a trans identity and making the choice to come out to others, and risk and resiliency factors for trans clients. The presentation will discuss options for gender transition and provide a structured process for helping clients and their families in the readiness process for medical treatments. Participants will receive guidance on writing letters of support for medical treatments, how to help families become more supportive, and how to advocate for clients in schools and other settings.

The presentation will also include a short primer, presented by Nancy Charest, MD, which will include an introduction to the medical therapies that gender diverse and transgender adolescents and their families often seek. The use of puberty "blockers" and gender affirming hormones, estrogen and testosterone will be reviewed.

The workshop is open to mental health clinicians who have an interest in working with gender diverse and transgender youth. Registration is required.

There is no charge for this WebEx workshop.
