Formerly the Bureau of Medical Services, MaineCare was created to administer the Department’s major health care financing programs and health care benefits. MaineCare Services coordinates the programs and benefits, assures that they operate under consistent policy in keeping with the Department’s goals and Federal mandates, and provides accountability necessary to determine that they are administered in an effective and efficient manner.
Southern Maine Parent Awareness
We enhance parents' understanding of special education and the child’s needs through information about special education and disabilities; referrals to community resources; individualized telephone and email consultation; individualized family conferences; assistance in preparing for ECT/IEP meetings; parent-to-parent connections; and special workshops. All family services are free.
Advocacy, case management, program evaluation and policy development. We administer three programs: The Client Assistance Program (CAP), The Assistive Technology (AT) Project and case management for veterans with disabilities through the Veteran’s Administration (VA) at Togus.
Maine Parent Federation
A statewide family support organization which promotes individual aspirations for all people through information, education and advocacy.
Maine Parent Federation / SPIN
The SPIN staff have experience as parents of children with disabilities. They can answer requests for information or help parents find the answers to more complex problems. SPIN also collaborates with parent organizations, state agencies and other groups in Maine to expand opportunities available to families.
Consumers for Affordable Healthcare
For over 20 years we have worked to protect the rights of health care consumers in Maine. We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan, research and advocacy organization committed to helping all Maine people obtain quality, affordable health care.
We assist individuals and families in preventing, reducing or eliminating poverty in their lives and, through partnerships, engage the community in addressing economic and social needs.
The nonprofit Children’s Center provides quality, family-focused services for children; specializes in meeting the developmental needs of children with special needs by offering programs which encourage individual growth and development; provides support for their families; and promotes inclusion of all children in the community.
