Child and Adolescent Psychiatry internship

In the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), we offer college students an internship based in the section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The internship is located at the Lebanon, NH, campus of DHMC and includes opportunities to shadow and interact in many areas of health care throughout the hospital and community.

The internship is a combination of supporting work being done in the Child Psychiatry section and projects that can be matched to personal interests. You work with providers and trainees in the fields of psychology, social work, and psychiatry.

You have a chance to observe mental health evaluations and treatment, and also have access to patients through the electronic medical record, direct phone contact, and data collection. Settings include the departments of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Child Development, and New Hampshire Hospital.

Your projects may include:

  • Outreach to community resources
  • Research on topics in child mental health
  • Patient follow-up after visits
  • Possible involvement in research projects with publication opportunities
