Pediatric Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy uses high powered x-rays or radioactive seeds to fight many types of cancer. It can be used alone or in combination with chemotherapy or surgery.

Radiation therapy can shrink a tumor before surgery, and can also be given after surgery to prevent cancer from returning.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock offers pediatric radiation therapy services in in Lebanon, NH.

The conditions we treat include:

  • Cancers of the central nervous system
  • Leukemia
  • Lymphoma
  • Sarcoma
  • Wilm’s Tumor
  • Neuroblastoma

We provide patient- and family-centered care, and work with other areas of the hospital including our Child Life Specialists, pediatric oncologists, surgeons, and radiology. This collaboration allows us to provide coordinated care for your child.

Our Child Life Specialists understand the special needs and concerns of children. They work with our patients and their families to lessen the concerns kids have during treatment through the use of such things as diversionary tools and tours of the facility before treatment starts, so that kids and their families know what to expect. Our social workers are attentive to the needs of children and their families as they deal with all of the issues associated with having cancer treatment.

Protocols are offered through the Children’s Oncology Group (COG).
