Storybook Ball Raises More Than $204,000 for CHaD
Under a blanket of fresh white snow, hundreds of nattily dressed CHaD supporters dined, danced, and donated their way to a magical evening December 6 at the 2019 CHaD Storybook Ball, presented by SLC Group Holdings, LLC.
Over $204,000 was raised at the event, thanks to sponsors, donors, and over 350 guests who generously bid on dozens of silent and live auction items. Those funds will support programs funded by philanthropy at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD), including the complex care program which supports kids and their families who are dealing with multiple diagnoses at the same time.
Over 44 designers contributed their talents by turning the Castleton Banquet & Conference Center into a winter wonderland. Storybooks ranged from classic tales like “A Christmas Carol” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” to “The Soldiers’ Night before Christmas” and “Mooseltoe.’
Two design teams were singled out for their creativity by guests at the dinner. CHaD patients toured the venue and cast their ballots for Julie Taub, Kacey Graham, and Danielle Mazzella for their “Soldiers” motif, which featured a six-foot helicopter propeller towering over the table. Ball guests and celebrity judges each chose “The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot About Christmas” as their favorite, as designed Jayna Stevens and her talented team at Harvey Construction.
“Every year I am amazed at the diligent and heartfelt work of our committee, designers, volunteers, donors and supporters of the Storybook Ball for CHaD,” said Joshua Wright, co-chair of the Storybook Ball committee. “They continue to inspire me and those who work year round on this event to continue to make it better and raise more for the kids at CHaD!”
Several elements contributed to the dollars generated for CHaD. Sponsorships were vital, highlighted by the support of SLC Group Holdings, LLC; Lamont, Hanley & Associates; GYK Antler; Bank of America; Wells Fargo Advisors; and The Wright Family. Attendees enjoyed a live auction featuring a deluxe vacation in Ireland, plus trips to New York City and Los Angeles to attend live tapings of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” respectively. Nearly 60 silent auction packages provided an excellent opportunity for holiday shopping while another group of bidders took home elaborately decorated trees to add to the holiday spirit in their own homes.
Special thanks are reserved for dozens of volunteers who joined the CHaD staff Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning to help the event run smoothly. And, of course, the designers! Without their talents, the Storybook Ball simply isn’t as magical.
