While rain was in the forecast for June 5, it held off long enough for over 450 children, parents and volunteers to enjoy the annual Safe Kids 301 at NH Motor Speedway! Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD), Speedway Children’s Charities and Safe Kids NH once again partnered on this fun event featuring organizations from around the state, who made use of the Speedway’s garages to provide health messaging and information for all. Perhaps most exciting was the opportunity for kids to ride their bikes around a real NASCAR track.
In addition, there were visits from drivers Jake Matheson, Jack Wilder and motorcyclist Alex Guilbeault who signed autographs and brought their vehicles for the children to check out up close. Helmet checks conducted by volunteers from the Elliot Trauma Program. S&W Sports and the Bike Walk Alliance also did free bike safety checks while Safe Kids NH provided free helmets to those in need. Volunteers from Sunapee Bikes provided traffic control and parking and the NH Office of Highway Safety, Granite State Credit Union and CHaD helped with registration. Golden Cross Ambulance was on standby for track first aid services and Concord Medical Reserve Corps was there to help with any minor first aid issues. Over 60 helmets were given out and 75 bikes were given a safety check. Safe Kids NH is grateful to all those who participated and made this event such a success and we are already anticipating next year!
